I am supporting Giovanni Foresti because of his commitment to establishing the place of psychoanalysis in the contemporary world.
It is not just a clinical method, but it also has a major contribution to make to all the caring professions, including medicine, social work and education, as well as psychiatry. The psychology of experiencing is not mainstream, and perhaps never will be, but it is, of necessity, an essential ingredient in understanding human beings.
The IPA and the psychoanalytic community need to regain the confidence that whatever school of psychology is in fashion, actual people are interested in their own experiences, and those of their families and friends. We have a lot to offer, and Giovanni has the dedication and energy to support our confidence in this direction.
