Björn Salomonsson
Giovanni Foresti unites a true passion for the essence of psychoanalysis and an eagerness to establish contacts with other institutions and professionals on the mental scene. By the essence of psychoanalysis, I mean its method of probing into the deeper strata of the mind – yet realizing that such guesswork is inevitably conjectural and uncertain in its character. Concerning Giovanni’s efforts to make psychoanalysis more known to psychiatrists, I refer to his function as co-chair in the IPA committee “Psychoanalysis and the mental health field”. Today, in an area promoting hopes of “quick fix” and a medicalized view of the human mind, I think such work deserves recognition and gratitude among us psychoanalysts. Last but not least, I find Giovanni to be an honest, conscientious and sympathetic fellow.
